Uganda is widely recognized as one of Africa’s premier birding destinations due to its exceptional biodiversity, strong professional guiding structures, and well-preserved natural habitats. Located within the globally significant Albertine Rift, the country supports a high concentration of Albertine Rift Endemic bird species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.
With over 1,100 recorded bird species, Uganda offers remarkable diversity within a relatively compact geographical area. Birders can explore pristine forests, wetlands, savannahs, and freshwater ecosystems, all protected under established conservation laws and management frameworks.
Uganda also benefits from a well-organized national network of professional site guides, ensuring high-quality birding experiences across key destinations. The country has taken a continental lead in youth birding development and women’s participation, positioning Uganda as a pioneer in inclusive birding tourism. In addition, Uganda offers excellent birding infrastructure, including quality lodges strategically located near key birding sites, reliable access to information, and well-documented birding locations.
